cheap tricks

go words, tell her to smile and that she looks fine
on the way, take with you the soft breeze
to blow on her tired eyes and give her color dreams

when she's done her chores and dues
she can steal a moment and escape
to the lost island where a gift of rain awaits

i hold her seventeen hand when the breeze
harasses her hair and shyly she offers
a white rose of her robe to me

run words, whisper into her neck, her earlobes
caress her body with the murmur of love spring
sketch a rain forest, let peacocks dance

let me hide behind a banyan and a flute
she comes to light in raga bahar, awakens
to the rain deer a graze in dragonfly dew

fly to her, words, take her on your wings
let her look on with feasting eyes
the mountains and the seas, milky way and galaxies

like a lover i lay on top of her cheek to cheek
her hands, tulip soft, her fragrance drowning me
